Southern Vipers Under 13 Indoor Tournament
On 10th Feb the Dorset Cricket Board held its first Southern Viper Indoor Tournaments at both Under 13 and Under 16 at Purbeck Sports Centre
The morning began with an Under 13 game between South Dorset and East Dorset,in which despite losing 2 wickets in the first over, South scored 113 for 3 off their 12 overs, Millie Russell top scoring with 28 runs.
In reply East lost regular wickets and at 68 for 5 looked to be out of the game, however a match winning innings of 32 not out from Sophie Donaldson saw East home for a 1 wicket victory with four balls to spare.
The second game saw North join the frame with a game against East. East batting first got off to a fine start with an opening stand of 58 for the first wicket, Sophie continuing her good form with 21, and Emelia Butler joining her scoring 31. Despite continuing at a good pace, wickets continued to fall, and East ended up 132 all out in 9.2 overs.
The first over of the North reply bowled by Lily Crowley saw 2 wickets fall with only 4 runs, but despite being 16 for 3 North continued to hang in there and with Zoe Howell getting the first fifty of the day, North ended up being bowled out for 111 in the 10 over, giving East another victory this time by 21 run.
The last game of the Under 13 tournament, was a fixture between North and South, North batted first, and after getting off to a fine start and putting on 80 for the first wicket, a collapse occured with both Mollie Collins and Beth Cooper picking up 2 wickets, with North all out for 111 in 8.5 overs.
In reply South steady built towards the total getting to the target 2 wickets down in the 9 over. Megan Bishop top scoring with 28, supported by 25 from Izzy Pugh
This meant East won the tournament. Well Done to all that took part
Southern Vipers Under 16 Indoor Tournament
In the afternoon we moved onto an Under 16 tournament, starting again with an East Versus South fixture.
Despite the loss of a wicket first ball of the innings South managed to make 122 all out in 10.2 overs, with Eliza Lever-Smith scoring 22, Lily Wood scoring 20. Olivia Harris did well with the ball taking 2 wickets. In reply East struggled against Souths straight bowling as East got bowled out for 86, with all 6 batters being bowled. Lily Wood being the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wickets for 13 runs.
The second game saw North facing East, with North put into bat they scored 130 all out off their 12 overs. Hannah Skipworth (26) and Thea Primrose (27), in reply East really got going scoring 126 without losing a wicket as they passed the north total in the 9 over. Caitlin Chissell scoring 26, and Elle Rook 28.
So the last game was South versus North with South needing a win to secure the tournament.
South batted first and got off to an excellent start with 127 being put on for the first wicket, and with Lily Wood 36, Tilly Churchill 42, Amelie Whitaker 34, and Eliza Lever-Smith 27 South finished on 209 for 3 off 12 overs.
North set off on what looked like a tough ask to overhaul the target and made a good effort but in the end fell 67 runs short with Amelie Whitaker picking up 2 wickets, top score was Molly with 36 and Thea Primrose again scored well with 23.
