Dorset Cricket Board have begun to pilot a new style of cricket festival for schools that will replace kwik cricket in the Summer of 2022. The format of the festivals will be Countdown Cricket and scoring is made easy via the Countdown Cricket Scoring app. Teachers, leaders and helpers can download this app for free.
Schools are encouraged to bring 30 children, to play in games of 30 ball innings, with each game lasting about 30 minutes. THE THIRTY! These 30 children should be a mix of genders with at least 12 girls.
The format explained:
· 6 a-side teams
· pairs cricket format
· 5 ball overs – 30 ball innings (6 overs)
· 2 overs per pair – a lost wicket results in 5 runs being given to fielding team
· Countdown Cricket Scoring app used
· No boundaries - runs scored by running between wickets
· Everybody bowls one over – underarm allowed
· Extras = Wides and no balls = 1 run
· Plus use of 'tee hitting' for extras. – Cannot hit behind and fielders cannot change position.
