The Dorset Cricket Board would like to thank all of the Natwest OSCAS winners below as well as everyone that was nominated for an award for the time and effort that they put into cricket. Without volunteers the game of cricket would not be in as strong of a position as it is.
Get the Game On - Lee Gage (Compton House CC)
This category epitomises the impact that Lee Gage has had within our club; nurturing and developing a thriving and inclusive youth section since his arrival in 2012. Lee has shown a significant amount of dedication to the development of youth cricket at Compton House C.C to ensure that competitive, league cricket is provided for all. He has undertaken a multitude of roles that include: Level 2 coach, umpire, scorer, parent and role model to have allowed children to represent the club at u/8’s, u/10’s and u/12’s level.
We’re a small but progressive club who have ambitions to continue growing and a large part of that is attracting and retaining both players and coaches; something Lee recognises the importance of. We have gone from no junior members to currently 35; a figure that is nearly half of the entire club. His commitment to retaining the youth members is commendable as winter nets have ensured cricket is provided for 8 months of the year. Lee has also welcomed and encouraged junior supervisors to obtain coach support qualifications; thus ensuring appropriate cricket development. We are proud that Lee is an ambassador for our club who upholds the spirit of cricket.
Heartbeat of the Club - Nick Williams (Poole Town CC)
Nick joined Poole Old Grammarians CC in 1979. He soon became a 1st XI regular, later skippering the team and remained a 1st XI player until he took over the 2nd XI captaincy. He was treasurer of POGCC and secretary of Poole Town CC.
When PTCC attained Clubmark accreditation in 2007, Nick was the driving force and remains our Clubmark manager.
He has acted as equipment and kit coordinator over many years and is heavily involved in social events and club dinners.
For 15 years now Nick has been chairman of our youth section, which has grown to over 100 members from age 6 upwards. He is responsible for the recruitment of players, the appointment and management of coaches, arranging coaching sessions and fixtures and runs the annual youth presentation evening. He also set up the club’s formal coach payroll.
Nick is an ECB Level 2 coach and manager of a district side, as well as manager and coach of PTCC’s u-12s.
Nick is respected by everyone from young to old and is someone that all of us turn to for advice and encouragement. His contribution has been vital to the success of the club and he thoroughly deserves this nomination.
Lifetime Achiever - Peter Dooker (Poole Town CC)
Peter Dooker joined Poole Old Grammarians CC in the 1950s. He quickly became an established first teamer and formidable all-rounder and became 1st XI skipper, a post he held for almost 20 years.
He has been both treasurer and secretary and became club chairman in the 1980s. When POGs merged with Poole CC in 1992, it was Peter that brought the two clubs together and led the negotiations and was the unanimous choice to become chairman of the new Poole Town CC.
Under his chairmanship the club has seen unrivalled success and he remains the club’s driving force. As well as attending every Saturday 1st XI and Sunday XI fixture (and working on the wicket between innings on Saturdays) he has overseen the growth of the club’s youth section. He also runs the club’s 250 Club, raising thousands of pounds every year to help keep the club safe financially.
At the same time, he has also co-ordinated the Poole Cricket Association and acted as liaison between cricket clubs in the town and Poole Borough Council.
Peter’s commitment to PTCC and to the game of cricket deserves recognition and the club takes pleasure in nominating him.

Young Volunteer - Sam Stroud (Hamworthy CC)
Sam has been at the club seems like years but did the majority of his youth playing cricket at Hamworthy, Over the last few years Sam has wanted to get involved in youth coaching and support all the youth sides. He actually takes and plans 2 nights a week worth of coaching for 4 age groups and also organising the helpers and other coaches that are required for these nights, he also umpires some youth matches and team managers on age group as well.
Sam is currently completing his Level 2 and has also done the basic umpire course. He is also keen to try and help around the club and gets frustrated by some people that sit there and do nothing , but he is always trying to get across new ideas and better ways the club could work.. Sam’s coaching has seen him spent time at Castle Court Coaching their Kids and all the Free Time he has spent there has lead him to getting a paid position at the school which long term could help him in a career of coaching cricket , rugby and hockey as well. Sam actually does listen to people with good advice and he does take it on board but even as a youngster you’re never quite sure. I have to say even when he was younger he was always helping me running the youth team he was a part of and the younger kids do love his style of coaching and does have a great relationship with them…
